I'm 74, and this is the first time in my life I have voluntarily watched sports on tv- not every game but several. My favorite team was Cape Verde, and I refuse to try to learn about the offside rule. Definitely watching the final today from the cheap comfort of the couch.
Edited to add: watched the final. The couch was comfortable, and my husband made excellent guacamole. Yayyyy - Spain!

There is definitely something welcoming about the sport. My partner isn't into sports -- at all. He's 60. Half-way through the tournament he started watching and is hooked. I've even watched some of the matches (is that the term?)
I've also seen people in public -- strangers -- watching the match together. At a outdoor space in Boston and inside a Nordstrom's under the escalators, where they had a TV set up. I love how it's bringing people together. It's magical and we need it.
